We, at the Youth for Peace Association in Morocco, are following with deep concern the recent decision by the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court (ICC), adopted on 24 July, to relieve Chief Prosecutor Mr. Karim Khan of his duties.

The concerns raised regarding these disciplinary proceedings—specifically regarding transparency, procedural fairness, and the use of a secret ballot—warrant urgent and serious attention. Any process perceived to fall short of the highest standards of justice risks undermining global confidence in the credibility and independence of this vital international institution.

As Moroccan youth deeply committed to the principles of human rights, justice, and peace, we reaffirm our conviction that there can be no lasting peace without independent and impartial justice. We stand alongside international human rights and legal organizations in their call to fully protect the autonomy of international judicial bodies.

Preserving the integrity, impartiality, and independence of the ICC is essential to upholding the Rome Statute. It is a fundamental requirement for ensuring the Court’s ongoing ability to combat impunity, protect human dignity, and foster international peace and security.

Justice must remain free from undue influence. An independent International Criminal Court is not merely a safeguard for victims, but the very cornerstone of a rules-based global order founded on accountability and lasting peace.
