Zakaria El Hamel: A Champion for Peace, Dialogue, and Human Rights in Morocco

Zakaria El Hamel, President of Youth for Peace and Dialogue between Cultures in Morocco, has been recognized globally for his tireless efforts towards peace, human rights, and interfaith harmony.

In his interview with OLBIOS, Zakaria El Hamel shared insights into his work to maintain a dialogue on human rights and beyond, stressing the importance of having faith in dialogue. He has been working tirelessly to transform hope into reality, and his efforts have been rewarded with several awards and accolades.

In 2019, Zakaria El Hamel was among the laureates of the Public Peace Prize, an international prize recognizing individuals and organizations for their commitment to peace. He was also named Ambassador of Peace by the Universal Circle of Ambassadors of Peace and nominated for the Pan African Humanitarian Awards, where he won the Young Achievers Prize for Peace Advocacy.

Zakaria El Hamel is leading a movement in his native Morocco to bring human rights awareness throughout the country as it emerges from decades of oppressive government rule, one which included the use of torture and forced disappearances. He has been working to build bridges between religions, emphasizing the need for respect for human rights and the value of interfaith harmony.

One of his initiatives, the Peace Train in Morocco, teaches young people to become advocates for peace and tolerance. This project has been covered by various media outlets and has garnered attention from international organizations such as the International Bureau for Children’s Rights and the United Nations.

Zakaria El Hamel’s dedication to peace, human rights, and interfaith harmony has earned him global recognition, and his work continues to inspire many.
